How It Works

Rock climbing can feel intimidating.

Let’s face it — most adventure sports feel that way. But we’re here to act as your on-ramp to an afternoon or a lifetime of rock climbing. We provide a safe, fun, supportive experience of the vertical world. If you’re an experienced climber, we’ll give you the tools you need to further your enjoyment and mastery of the sport.

Who does Ground Up work with?

Ground Up Climbing Guides works with people of all ages and ability levels. We can craft a fun day for any climber. Chances are good that you fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Families with kids

  • Adult experienced outdoor climbers who want to grow their skillset

  • Adult or youth gym climbers who are interested in climbing outdoors

  • Adult beginner climbers who are just getting started

  • Sport climbers who want to start leading climbs

Do I need climbing experience?

Nope! We like to say “you need what you have.” Our guides are very adept at helping new or experienced climbers find their footing. All of our guides have experience working with both kids and adults, and they know how to find the right balance of challenge and fun. We’ll push experienced climbers up to (and sometimes beyond) their comfort zones, allowing them to find courage they didn’t know they possessed.

It truly didn’t feel too easy at all, it was definitely “real” climbing... but in a location that offered a multitude of levels. We all were challenged at our levels, and it was just exhilarating. We forgot the worries and stress of city life instantly.

What happens on the day of the trip?

Your guide will have all the climbing gear you’ll need. You’ll bring basics like water and snacks — we’ll send you a list before your trip.

We’ll meet as close to the trailhead as we can, and after a short hike (what we call the “approach”) to the climbing area, your guide will set up a rope and start belaying for you.

We always encourage guests to learn to belay for each other as it makes for a more inclusive and supportive experience.
